Often metallic, reinforcing materials can be encapsulated and/or bonded to the polyurethane during the moulding process, to give rigidity where required, E.g. for secure mechanical fixing, leaving the flexible polyurethane surface to resist the abrasion that would normally wear away the substrate at a rapid rate.
